    Bringing innovative and transformative leadership to jump-start organizational growth has been the foundation of my success at UC San Diego. As a leader of strategic academic initiatives in the Office of the Executive Vice Chancellor, my strengths lie in my ability to start up and launch new programs or technologies on time and on budget, drive continuous improvement and process efficiencies, and accelerate the adoption of transformative change - through collaboration, communication, and professional development.
    Highlights of my accomplishments include:
    - Pioneered the Distributed Application Development Initiative, transforming software development, and leading to the adoption of industry standards (Agile), launch of four new applications, and an API infrastructure.
    - Co-founded and launched a Business Excellence Community of Practice, bringing together a diverse network of practitioners to create a culture of continuous improvement; recognized and adopted by other universities. The culture supported creation of Process Palooza, a competition to develop solutions to campus-wide problems.
    - Co-founded and launched a Lean Bench for newly certified Six Sigma practitioners to drive improvements and cost savings across the enterprise systems renewal initiative.
    - Invited to speak at national level on business excellence, change management, and process improvement, presenting at annual conferences and workshops at various universities.
    - Turned around the operational and financial performance of International House - to create a profitable operating structure, including a strategic plan, staff restructure, and building renovation.
    - Co-authored a university international strategy for the Chancellor's Office in 2012 and executed three prongs of the 2002 strategy: establishing International Studies academic department, the Office for International Affairs, and a think tank.

  • Kevin Waldrop

    As an organizational consultant and Assistant Director of the COE, Kevin is a Lean Six Sigma Black Belt, an experienced project manager and trained in Prosci Change Management. His skills and project-based work includes improvement initiatives, process mapping in Lucidchart, creating business process intake forms and workflow development in Kuali Build, and other continuous improvement projects. 

    * Serves on the IT and HR SME Workgroups for ESR Enterprise Identity Management (EIM). Through work as a Departmental Security Administrator (DSA), Continuous Improvement SME for the Student Hiring and Onboarding Process (SHOP), and his participation on the Academic Information Technology Advisory Group (AITAG) he has been exploring best practices in Active Directory (AD) and Business Systems accounts for staff and student employees.

    * Program Manager of the Business Office Ticketing System (BOTS). Leads this pilot program to design, develop and implement a ticketing process for select high-volume business offices through user stories, requirements, process mapping, form design and workflow execution.

    * Chair of the Business Excellence Community of Practice (BECOP), a consortium for Change Management, Continuous Improvement based on Lean Six Sigma, and Project Management.

    * Conference Chair for the 2023 Lean in Higher Education (LeanHE) International Conference here at UC San Diego. Also, currently a committee member for the LeanHE Global Committee and the LeanHE Americas Division Committee.

    Additionally, he received a 2019 California Higher Education Collaborative (CHEC) 'Focus on Efficiency' award for CI work on the UC San Diego classroom scheduling process. Serves on the Program Team for the Project Management Practical Training Program (PMPTP), a blended project management program He is a long-time volunteer Assessor/Staff for the UC Management Skills and Assessment Program (MSAP) and participates as a mentor in the UC San Diego Staff Mentorship Program.
